Monkey pox update

Samedaydoctor was interviewed on GB news today about the recent outbreak in Monkeypox. This has now become a virus which can be transmitted by sexual activity and as such we have to be aware that patients presenting with symptoms resembling Monkeypox must be screened remotely prior to a face to face consultation. Syphilis, herpes and molluscum resemble Monkeypox as indeed does chickenpox (varicella).

Although Monkeypox is usually a mild illness it can be serious in pregnant women and immunocompromised people. Smallpox vaccine may be available if the outbreak spreads. The symptoms include fever and a blistery rash on the face, hands or genitals.
